Good Governance Program (GGP)

Good Governance Program (GGP), with financial support from Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), has been in implementation since 2000. GGP has now been implementing its programs in 9 districts of Nepal; Okahaldhunga, Khotang, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Dhankuta, Palpa, Surkhet, Dailekh and Jajarkot. It has been working for promotion of good governance, peace building, human rights, inclusive democracy, social inclusion, transparency, accountability and participation of the marginalized and discriminated groups in the decision making processes. The project also aims at informing, empowering and educating such excluded and discriminated community by building their capacity through trainings, orientation, interaction and sensitization programs in order to promote their equitable access to public goods, services, resources and foster participation in the local level decision making bodies and in monitoring of public service delivery at the grassroots as well.

The Program has been conducting media advocacy. As part of media advocacy and campaign, GGP has been broadcasting weekly radio and TV programs; and publishing Nepali and English magazines. The media programs are broadcast weekly from the state-owned media enterprises. These media components focus on issues of good governance, democracy, human rights, exclusion and other issues like service delivery, public goods and resources by fostering participation of the marginalized and discriminated community such as Dalit, women and Janajatis in the democratic process of decision making bodies down from the local level.
As its part of intervention on supply side, the Program also aims at empowering public authorities by building their capacity through trainings/workshops on existing government policies, directives, public hearings, public audits and their role for effective delivery of public services, goods and resources to the needy and marginalized people at large
