Public Interest Litigation

Pro Public has filed hundreds of public interest litigation (PIL) at different courts across the country on issues as such environmental protection, gender equality, human rights, child rights, consumer rights, and good governance among others since its inception in 1991. The PIL has been used as a tool for Protecting and promoting environmental, social, economic, cultural, gender and political rights of the people of Nepal. In 1994, The Asia Foundation (TAF) provided support to establish its first Public Interest Law Firm in Pro Public. Public interest research, advocacy and litigation are core work area of Pro Public and its members are committed to carry out these activities regardless of the availability of the funding. TAF, ARD Rule of Law Project, E-Law US, Save the Children Nepal and Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) have supported PIL initiative at different points of time in the last decade.
